You know what's so bad about December? I'll tell you.
It's when you're trying not to gain anymore weight, before Christmas.
That's right. You finally get it though your head how smart it would be to avoid massive calories in the first three weeks of December. You vow to "save yourself" for the goodies that will undoubtedly spill out of the woodwork somewhere around December 22nd, knowing this temporary denial will help you feel s-o-o-o much better about yourself after the New Year.
So, you are eating things like rice crackers and carrots, and you are trying so hard not to be around "real food" (read carbohydrates,) so you won't be tempted to snack.
Suddenly, it hits you. It's 4:15 p.m. and all you have to do is last another hour and a half before you can have dinner!
Then, of course, you realize that you're the one that has to do the cooking.
That's what's so bad about December.
P.S. (Yes, I know my blog is still stuck in the Fall. Winter decor coming soon.)

It's tough to watch your calorie intake when you have hungry mouths around to feed. And it takes a LOT of carrots and rice crackers to fill yourself up! Good luck these next few weeks in your quest to hold off on the goodies.
I love that Robert Frost poem. Every time I read it, I wonder what promises he has to keep, and why he stoped there in the first place.
Great poem.

Lynn--I think the cookies are winning out over the carrots. Too many goodies streaming into work these days. It would be a lot easier if people spaced these things out!! (Of course, nobody said I HAD to eat them...)
Christina--Good to hear from you! Two of my favorite poems in the world are the one on the blog and "The Road Not Taken," also by Robert Frost. I love the spiritual truth in the last stanza:
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
