Well, dear readers, you had better get used to a new kind of post. Yesterday, Teacher Husband, Thing Two, and I all drove down and moved Thing One into her college dorm room.
Yes, that's right, my Delicate Flower has now become Amazing College Girl.
I think I have felt every emotion possible in the last 24 hours,( but, I didn't cry because I did that the night before after everyone had gone to sleep. ) We have all been walking this path for a year with my daughter's friends and their parents. My daughter was actually the last of her (HUGE) group of friends to leave town. In the interim I feel I've heard every possible reaction possible from every possible sector.
On the one end: Amazing tried to say goodbye on Sunday to a friend of hers who is a college senior:
Amazing: "Well I"m going to college!"
Senior Friend: "Where are you going again?"
Amazing: "College X!
Senior Friend: "Oh, man, that's just down the road!"--and he wouldn't even say goodbye because he thought she wasn't going far enough to justify it (! )
On the other end was my friend A. who has a terrific son who has gone all through school with my daughter. The four of us were at school, when she walked up to another mutual friend, pointed at her boy and said:
"So, have you heard?? He's leaving me!!"
(The latter reaction sounded oddly reminescent of my parents, who felt convinced that my entire agenda in going to college was to upset them.)
As for me, I'm not entirely sure yet how I feel about the whole thing, yet except that I certainly miss my little girl.
